2018 Int’l Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Patani




The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on Tuesday in Patani as elsewhere in the world.

The United Nation General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse supported each year by individuals, communities and various organizations all over the world. This global observance aims to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society.


In order to observe this special day, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Patani Local Government Branch in collaboration with Nigeriayouthhouse.net organized a one day sensitization rally and seminar in Patani town the head quarters of Patani Local Government Area of Delta State on Tuesday morning. The event which had a large crowd of youths in attendance, witnessed dancing along Patani town while creating awareness among the public against drug abuse.



The sensitization rally which was led by Comrade Rock Vincent Preye, chairman NYCN Patani Branch took the event to the next level when he led the youths to the palace of His Royal Majesty Barr. Shedrack Peremobowei Erebulu, Pere of Kabowei Kingdom.

Speaking at the palace, Comrade Vincent addressed His Royal Majesty noting that following recent happenings it has become expedient to mobilize the youths resident in Patani to lead the fight to stop drug abuse.

His Royal Majesty while responding said he is very happy to receive Comr. Vincent and the entire team to his palace with the campaign to stop drug abuse in his kingdom. He further noted it is a welcome development while he charged all the youth leaders to continuously carry out the message around and not to stop after today as there is no positive gains abusing drugs rather its brings self destruction. His Royal Majesty also made a special appeal to corp members to carry out the messages to students in their respective schools.

Speaking shortly after His Royal Majesty’s response, Engr. Fuludu Raphael, Founder and CEO Nigeriayouthhousehouse.net the collaborating organization specially appreciated His Royal Majesty for adding his voice to the campaign against drug abuse.


The event culminated after convergence of the youths at Patani Local Government Secretariat hall for the seminar, which witnessed a paper presentation by the guest speaker Mrs Chukwuedo Helen (Representative of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control – NAFDAC) on the topic “Lets build our lives, our communities, our identities, without drugs” and several goodwill messages from the head of department Primary Health Care Patani Local Government, Engr. Fuludu Raphael Founder/CEO Nigeriayouthhouse.net, Mr. Lucky Odikeme, Elder Avwoke Eloroghene President Centre for Youth Development. The session which was well attended by community youth presidents across Patani Local Government Area, National youth service corp members, secondary school students and a host of others, also had presentations from children and youths as well questions and answers in line with this years’ theme “listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe”
